Asana’s Head Of People Operations Has Passion For Helping Women Succeed

Alumna: IESE-Barcelona MBA, ’05 and University of Oregon BA,
Political Science ’95

In her current role at Asana, a work tracking software company in San Francisco, Anna Binder believes she is doing what she was meant to do. As Head of People Operations for a company that is mission-driven and culture-focused, she is responsible for recruiting, Total Rewards, learning and development, diversity and employee experience.

After getting her MBA from IESE in Barcelona, she explored jobs in micro-finance but returned to human resources in the tech industry. A rewarding aspect of her human resources experience is its relevance to her involvement with Emerge California. As a board member of this organization that trains progressive women to run for public office, Anna was able to apply what she has learned from her MBA and career to an organization whose mission she cares about deeply.

Word that define her: Persist
Favorite book: Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg influenced my approach to managing others. But more importantly, it highlighted her (now late) husband as one of the leading feminists in the country and a role model for others.  Their partnership in marriage was inspiring. It connects to my work at Emerge – I advocated for bringing men to the Board of Directors because equality is not a “women’s” issue – it is an issue of humanity.
Song that makes her turn up the volume: Anything by The Cure or Billy Joel
