The MBA Career and Industry Night Experience

MBA Career and Industry Night events are an excellent way to interact with employees at your target companies and industries. I recently helped plan USC Marshall’s Industry Night with five clubs (Business of Entertainment Association, High Tech Association, Marshall Net Impact, USC Energy Club, and Healthcare Leadership Association). I also attended the Graduate Marketing Association’s Career Night. Both of them were a great success and immensely beneficial to my career pursuits in the entertainment industry.

Both alumni and contacts of USC Marshall are gracious enough to come onto campus after their busy workday, and participate in multiple roundtable sessions with students. They share their work experiences and answer questions in small groups. This is an invaluable learning experience for MBA students, and just one touch point in maintaining relationships with these companies. These events are spaced out to let first-year students explore multiple industries, if they desire. Other industry nights are conducted by the consulting, finance, and leadership and organization clubs. It’s also advantageous for second-year and part-time students to continue their relationships from last year.

It’s been a busy fall semester for all presidents and VPs helping the Career Resource Center throw these events, but also gratifying to see all of the animated discussions with students and employees. Next up are the company treks during winter break!
