Careers are full of turning points and critical decisions. Should you raise your hand for that new role, leave a comfortable position in a secure company for a new opportunity with many unknowns, relocate your family, or turn down a promotion that doesn’t feel right. This webinar will provide an opportunity to hear directly from senior executives who faced these decisions and many others throughout their careers.

In the moderated discussion, senior executives from Capital One, Cognizant, and one other firm will share their experiences and the ups and downs of a long and successful career. They will discuss how they evaluated job changes, built a “kitchen cabinet” of trusted advisers and sponsors, took strategic risks, and developed a winning team. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and be inspired by role models who have built a career that works and evolves over time.

Deborah Merrill-Sands
Dean, Mills College

Deborah Merrill-Sands is the Dean of the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business and the Glenn and Ellen Voyles Chair in Business Education. She received her MA and PhD in applied anthropology from Cornell University, and her BA from Hampshire College. Dr. Merrill-Sands is an authority on women in leadership and gender dynamics in the workplace. Her recent work has focused on the areas of ethics, corporate responsibility, and sustainability. Prior to joining Mills, Dr. Merrill-Sands served as Dean of the School of Management at Simmons College for six years. Prior to serving as Dean she was the Associate Dean and also a co-director of the Center for Gender in Organizations. Before joining Simmons, Deborah worked extensively in international development in Latin America and East Africa.

Christine DeFilippo

Christine DeFilippo is a Vice President of Operations for the US Card Division. In her role today, she is responsible for Customer Experience. A Fortune 500 company, Capital One is a diversified bank with over 50 million customer accounts worldwide and 1,000 branch locations in New York, New Jersey, Texas, Louisiana, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Capital One’s subsidiaries offer a broad spectrum of financial products and services to consumers, small businesses and commercial clients through a variety of channels.

Ms. DeFilippo joined Capital One in 1996, in our call center operations team. Over the course of her career at Capital One, she has held a number of various leadership positions across Card Operations including Digital, Risk Management and Loss Mitigation. Her leadership and efforts have helped to drive innovations in our operations strategy and improve the customer experience.

Active throughout the community, Ms. DeFilippo participates in the Capital One Women’s Network, Girl Scouts USA and Junior Achievement. She serves as Treasurer on the board of the DaCapo Institute, a non-profit delivering music based education and services to the community.

Ms. DeFilippo earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Patricia (Trish) Birch
Vice President and Healthcare Consulting Practice Leader
Cognizant

Patricia (Trish) Birch leads Cognizant’s Healthcare consulting practice serving providers, payers, pharmacy benefit managers, public sector organizations, and health and wellness companies. She has years of hands on experience managing and executing complex business and IT programs, and has served multiple clients across the industry.

Trish has over 25 years of experience in healthcare operations and management consulting including 7 years as a C- level operations and information technology executive, 8 years as a consulting managing partner, and 7 years as a member of the board of trustees for a large healthcare system. She is also a published author and speaker on issues facing the healthcare industry. In addition, Trish has worked internationally serving clients in Europe and China and led healthcare practices at other leading healthcare consultancies.
